Islands form by gapping open beyond all of a trend’s prior price action, and not touching that prior price action until later gapping open back within it. Island patterns are reliable for reversing a trend in the near-term, to whatever degree and for however long. But Islands are eventually retested, whether to form a more durable extreme, or to resume the trend that originally created the Island.
