Bias windows

The bias system’s windows are fixed, which means that they open and close at the same time, each day. Price action that precedes a window can forecast some characteristics of that window’s price action. Two examples:

  • Perhaps sellers had pushed the market to probe under a relevant support price, but that price was recovered before entering the window. This would indicate that sellers are weak-handed, and a consequence is to reward its buyers. The counterpart price of the held support would become targeted, and it is a “passive” bias.
  • Or, similarly, sellers produced a probe under relevant support, but in this situation, its probe was ongoing when the window is entered. This consequence would reward sellers by targeting the next lower support. This is an “active” bias.

These examples apply primarily to the Bias windows, but other windows can also be influential (all times ET) :

  • 9:30 to 9:45 … FIRST-15 MINUTES
  • 10:15 to 11:30 … A.M. BIAS
  • 1:20 to 2:30 … P.M. BIAS
  • 3:10 to 3:20 … PROXY WINDOW
  • 3:37 to 3:52 … POSITION-SQUARING

These timing windows are highlighted in yellow on this chart:

Futures and options trading has large potential rewards, but also large potential risk. You must be aware of the risks and be willing to accept them in order to invest in the futures and options markets. Don’t trade with money you can’t afford to lose. The past performance of any trading system or methodology is not necessarily indicative of future results. Hypothetical or simulated performance results have certain limitations. Unlike an actual performance record, simulated results do not represent actual trading. Also, since the trades have not been executed, the results may have under-or-over compensated for the impact, if any, of certain market factors, such as lack of liquidity. Simulated trading programs in general are also subject to the fact that they are designed with the benefit of hindsight.
